Environmental site assessment Phase I
The environmental site assessment aims to determine whether or not there is evidence of potential and/or actual contamination of the site under consideration.
This assessment follows the requirements of the Canadian standard CSA Standard Z 768-01, Environmental site assessment (Phase I) and also the provincial governments’ guides and politics.
It is mandatory to include the following elements in the assessment report:
- Site visit
- Site history and property chain transaction
- Aerial photographs
- Previous environmental assessment reports
- Company records
- Geological and geotechnical report
- Regulation information
Preliminary environmental site characterization (Phase II) & Exhaustive environmental site characterization (Phase III)
The objective of the environmental site characterizations Phase II is to determine the presence or the absence of contamination on the site. In order to do so, surveys, drilling of observations well, soil and groundwater sampling are the methods implied to verify this hypothesis. It is possible that and exhaustive environmental site characterization (Phase III) would be necessary in order to delineate the contamination in surface and in depth.
All technical operations done in the environmental site characterization are performed according to the methods described in the guides and regulations of the appropriate governments.

Environmental site rehabilitation
The environmental site rehabilitation of soils and groundwater aims to restore the environmental condition by following the general criterion described in Québec’s Soil Protection and Rehabilitation of Contaminated Sites Policy.
Les techniques possibles de la réhabilitation environnementale :
- Excavation et transport dans un lieu d’enfouissement autorisé
- Traitement in situ (sous-traitance avec des firmes spécialisées)
- Confinement et suivi environnemental
